I spent weeks studying digital cameras of various specs and price ranges and decided on Canon SX130IS camera based on the combination of the good price and 12x optical zoom. Retail it sells for $229 plus sales tax so any price you get on Amazon will beat what you’d pay at the store. I absolutely love my camera. The vast majority of photos have come out vivid and beautiful, and the Zoom is amazing! When you combine the optical and digital zoom, you get 48x which admittedly isn’t as clear as staying with a 12x optical only, but it allows you the ability to capture some pretty amazing shots at a distance. One feature some may not like, but I love is that it takes AA batteries. I simply use rechargables or lithium and they last a Very long time. The batteries it comes with are weak and are best used for a remote control.
Overall, I Love this camera so much, I purchased a 2nd one as a Father’s Day gift & I know he’ll enjoy using it as much as I am.

I ordered Canon SX130IS camera for 179.99 (which is a little bit less than its actual retail value) so when I say that its a great camera for the price, I guess I should throw in that I probably would have payed a little more for it. I thought the price I payed was a really awesome deal, and 200 or even a little bit more, would have seemed very fair.
Its a little bit heavy and bulky, so if you’re looking for something slim and cute its probably not the best choice for you. The picture quality is really good though, and for a camera thats under 200$ I was really impressed with the zoom. I’ve heard some complaints that the manual controls were too complicated, but just from playing around I was able to figure out how to (basically) make any adjustments I wanted. I’m not a photographer, so I can’t say anything about technical stats or hardware, but I’ve really enjoyed the camera and think that it takes really nice photos. To me the quality’s a little better than most point and shoot digital cameras in its price range, and offers just enough creative control to fidget with settings without it being too complicated.
I’d recommend this camera to anyone looking for an affordable camera to enjoy, thats not super serious about photography but would still like a bit of creative elbow room. Like I said, its not the super cute/cool looking camera that you pull out to elevate your social status, but if you’re looking for photo quality this is definitely one of the most affordable ways to go.

When I decided I wanted (read: needed) a new camera this year, I obsessively researched it like I do most things. Being a poor camera nerd, I decided that I wanted to stay in this price point so I could save up for an SLR in a couple of years. Canon SX130IS camera is a fabulous placeholder, and it’s the best image quality I’ve seen in a point and shoot for this price.Yes, there is some turn around time between shots, and yes it runs on AA batteries (although for me this isn’t really a con since I invested in some NiMH rechargeables and they’ve been doing a great job), but if you’re like me and your bottom line is image quality, then I really don’t think you can do much better for the same amount of money.
I live out in New Mexico and take a lot of photos outside, so I haven’t played with the flash much, but without it the camera has done a really great job with direct lighting, indirect lighting, sunset colors, etc. I’ve printed some pretty nice 11×14 posters (and the printing sites say I could take it up to 12×18 without adverse effects), so the 12 megapixels is working out pretty well.
This isn’t an SLR, but it’s solid image quality at a very fair price, and honestly, I wouldn’t want to spend too much more than this on something that doesn’t give you the absolute manual controls of an SLR. Highly recommended.

I studied a ton of reviews from amazon, best buy, and professional reviews and chose this camera over the sx30is and am glad I did. I had the Canon A620 which is a 7mp 4x optical zoom and I loved it. It’s 6 years old and still working great. I just wanted an upgrade. I considered a D-SLR but the price was just too much for me. But I wanted a really good point and shoot that could take D-SLR type pictures. Of course, nothing is THAT good, but Canon SX130IS camera is excellent. I find that I can take pictures indoors without the flash, where with my old camera it was nearly impossible. They come out so crystal clear (most of them, not so much with my wiggly baby as the subject!) and the colors are so bright, and true. I haven’t even begun to look at all the options on the camera, haven’t had to since it takes great pics in the SCN modes. I am really looking forward to reading up on it and experimenting. I really don’t think you can be disappointed with a Canon camera. I definitely agree on the comments about the battery life…I took maybe 100 pictures on 1 set of batteries (the ones that came with it) but I already bought the Rayovac rechargeables NiMH so I expect to see a huge improvement. Such a great buy for the price.

I purchased Canon SX130IS camera to replace my wifes 110is which has been a quality work horse for a person who averages 200 shots a week, yes 200. She is very happy with the new camera and its upgrades. It is much the same unit with a better lens and more resolution.
I use two Canon high end SLR cameras and this 130 captures as good or better pictures in most all situations. Best camera for the price on todays market.
